Folk Medicine as a Ritual Integrity

Summary/Abstract: Studying folk (traditional) medicine by the methods of cultural anthropology, the author analyses the space, time, ritual personages, actions and objects involved in the medical ritual, and backs up his thesis regarding the intrinsic unity of this cultural field, ensuing from the ritual discourse. In this way it becomes possible to discuss the seemingly disordered scattering of spoken forms (magic, fortune-telling, incantations, beliefs regarding diseases and evil forces, holidays, sacrificial offerings, phyto therapy, etc.) as necessarily belonging to the field of traditional medicine.
