Summary/Abstract: Undeniably, the Medieval Ages is an epoch of great extremes. Among other things, the significant evidence confirming this thesis is the comprehension of love in those days. However, generally, the attitude of medieval thinkers towards love understood in sensual categories is then at least guarded. Much more space is devoted to the dramatic consequences of human carnality. Nevertheless the increasing intellectual tendencies in the 14th century led to the intensification of a voluntarist trend in the next century. That revealed itself also in the growing interest in the issue of carnal love. It was contemplated mainly whether this sphere of human life should be assessed negatively or may be regarded as sanctified by God.
