Summary/Abstract: János Térey is perhaps the most original, most remarkable representative of the young Hungarian generation of poets. His work entitled Paulus revived a nineteenth century epical genre, the novel in verse (representatives of which are Byron’s Don Juan, or Pushkin’s Anyegin). It met a great success among critics and readers. One hero of the parallel stories is a hacker from Budapest, the other is General Friedrich Paulus, the German commander of the Stalingrad battle. The present review is one of the few writings that raise serious objections against the text-organisation and conflicts of value in Paulus, and the way Paulus handles tradition.
