Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the question of the epic and ballad element in the historical songs of the Bulgarian Muslims from the Teteven Balkan region. It dwells on songs, in which the text reflects real-life persons and events, connected to the history of the confessional community. It turns out that historical concreteness plays an important role in generating and structuring "new" song texts. The second part of the text examines the musical contents of the historical songs. Their musical features show similarity with the epic song, performed with the accompaniment of a string instrument (in this case baylama - a small tamboura). The structuring of the melody by multiple varying repetition of one melodic and rhythmic pattern reveals intonation relationship to the lamentation tradition of this population. The author comes to the conclusion that in musical aspect the historical song represents a regional variant of the epic song.
