Summary/Abstract: The archeological discoveries in Maramures county give evidence that people have lived in this area since the Superior Paleolithic era (35.000–10.000 BC) and the Bronze era. This was confirmed by the discovery of many deposits with tools and weapons that proved the existence of some bronze and gold metallurgical craftsmanship. After Dacian conquest, the Maramures area remains an independent Dacian region. However, their connections to the Roman province become tighter. Maramures keeps its political and administrative independence until the end of XIV century, this fact was proven by XIVth century diplomas which use the words „Terra Maramoroisiensi” instead of „Comitatus” when relating to Maramures.
