Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper is to analyse relations between corporate strategies, institutional changes and differences in national industrial systems with the focus on the European Union (EU). Studied are interdependence of those elements and their impact on non-EU members. To reduce the scope of mutual relations as key element becomes corporate, state and EU strategies. With support of dominance effect theory and guerrilla strategy theory the author tries to show that it is possible that states use similar forms of competition against other states as corporations use. We try also analyse whether competition by institutions – it means a process when EU rapidly changes its approach toward non-members/associate countries – is primarily determined by an objective need for changes when number of members increases or whether it is a part of strategy how to maintain its competitive advantage over non-members by the form of permanent changes (guerrilla strategy). The aim of the paper is not to question results reached so far, but present a wider set of possible hypotheses on what is the reason for such permanent policy and regulation changes. Paper itself consists of five parts. In the first part two ideas used in paper – domi-nance effect theory and guerrilla strategy theory – are briefly discussed. Theory of dominance effect states that countries use their influence as a part of their strategies and guerrilla strategy theory stresses the fact that permanent changes in policies, trade re-gimes and legislation should not be determined only by objective situation in an econ-omy but can be also intentionally generated with the aim to gain competitive advantage for states or corporations. The second part describes corporate strategies in national industrial systems and analyses national industrial systems, differences among them inside the EU area and problems they generate in developing of integration in more details. Part three analyses institutional structure and its changes. The fourth part stud-ies in detail three hypotheses on causes of changes ongoing in the EU countries or which relate to criteria imposed on non-members. These are a) the hypothesis tat these changes are primarily provoked by guerrilla strategies of European firms, b) the hy-pothesis that changes relate to competition by institutions – it means with using guer-rilla strategy on national level and c) the hypothesis that current changes ongoing in the EU, as, e. g., institutional reforms, are determined by objective need to adapt to the expected substantial increase in the number of member countries. In the last part we deal with European integration as a framework for functioning of transnational corpora-tions and focus on current state and strategies of European corporations in relation to the previous issues. In the conclusion we briefly summarise some results. One of the most important is that all hypothetical reasons can be found at various levels in the EU area. ...
