Summary/Abstract: A. Gumuliauskas evaluated Algimantas Kasparavičius‘ work „The Role of the Holy See in the Politics and Diplomacy of the First Republic of Lithuania“. The reviewer stressed that the relationship between the First Republic of Lithuania and the Holy See was scarcely investigated in the Lithuanian historiography; consequently, A. Kasparavičius’ work as well as publications of the latest researches could be considered as an extraordinary event in the life of historians’ community. In the monograph, the author widely investigates political-diplomatic relations between two countries during the interwar period, mainly concentrating on the turning points in the relationship between Lithuania and the Holy See. The monograph also focuses on such personalities as Benedict XV, Pius XI, and Pius XII; attention is paid to encyclicals, peace initiatives, facets of Lithuania’s political life and aspects of Lithuanian-Italian diplomatic relations.
