Summary/Abstract: The main value of a crisis is that it is followed by catharsis. Even though catharsis has not yet arrived in Europe, a huge number of questions arose in terms of finding the right solutions in this dubious period of deep crisis, when as a result of these questions new notions indicate new directions for academic thinking, as well. In the field of constitutional law, the national constitutional identity is one of these notions, forged to defend national competences against European integration. This article is written in order to ask some questions amid doubts about the practice of using these notions hoping to offer a horizon of thinking.
