Summary/Abstract: It has been almost 30 years since the important event on minorities that took place in Ohrid, Former Yugoslavia in 1974. The United Nations Seminar on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights of National, Ethnic and Other Minorities was an event that centered its attention on minority rights, focusing in the then thriving model of former Yugoslavia when nationalities were in harmony and cooperation towards building their societies. In the general comments of this historic event it is mentioned that the exercise of economic, social and cultural rights by national, ethnic and other minorities on an equal footing with the majority is considered a prerequisite for the employment of civil and political rights. The historic significance of this statement becomes even more relevant if we take into consideration the fact that there are intensified attempts in the successor countries of former Yugoslavia to adjust the situation ofthe minorities. This is done in both the context of civil and political rights and social economic rights, as both sets of rights are equally important and supporting pillars for each other in this attempt.
