Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to present the transformation of the global automotive market and the new position of the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China). They increased production and sales of passenger cars since 2000, and began to play a more important role in the world trade. The global crisis of 2007-2009 had a significant impact on the industry. Developed countries experienced a large drop in the car production and sale. With the help of the state they managed to survive the worst of the crisis. At the same time car production and sales in the BRIC countries increased. Despite many challenges, the automotive industry of these countries faces good prospects for further development and strengthening its position in the global market.
