Macroeconomic model of medical tourism in Poland – basic conditions of research

Summary/Abstract: The primary objective of this paper is an attempt to systematize the international experience and results of research devoted to the emerging dynamic medical tourism sector. The reference point for researchers have become reflections on the global dimension of tourism trips due to medical or health issues and studies of current and prospective demand − supply side centers of that tourism. The second basic aim of the article is the fact that Poland (along with Hungary), is recognized by the international research community to be an important component of the European market for medical tourism. The article describes the state and the major areas of concentration of foreign medical tourism research in recent years in order to propose Polish directions of research in the macro scale by the analysis of existing models, identify the system of factors to be measured and instrumentation relevant to qualitative research methodology in medical tourism.
