Summary/Abstract: The Spain’s Second Republic founded in 1931 is one of the most distinguished examples of non-functional democratic political system. In spite of its foundation of modern liberal principles and representative government it wasn’t able to solve many political and social problems of those times. This study aims to focus on institutional architecture of the Spanish Second Republic that created a unique political system, especially because of its president-government-parliament relations. The macro-institutional characteristic of Spanish inter-war democracy will be treated from the point of view of the theory of centrifugal democracy. The article is based on the assumption that institutions do matter in the process of the establishment of centrifugal democracy.
