Summary/Abstract: Pedagogical quality of vocational teacher activity is one of the essential preconditions of successful vocational education and training reform. The article analyses an important aspect of vocational teacher training – the development of cooperation between university (higher school) and vocational education and training institution in the area of practical pedagogical studies where a future vocational teacher acquires practical pedagogical activity skills. Levels of practical pedagogical studies, their organisational principles, participants and roles as well as the nature of their interaction are the main issues discussed in the article. The author analyses the activity of a mentor - experienced vocational teacher – in a more detail, discussing mentor’s duties, objectives, requirements for his personality, functions performed during practical pedagogical studies, the nature of interaction with the tutor and future vocational teacher. The article ends with conclusions and recommendations how to improve mentor training and the organisation of practical pedagogical studies.
