Summary/Abstract: The data presented are approximate and indirect assessments, and as such they should be interpreted with great care. Nevertheless, they throw more light on the tendencies in demographic processes development in this country. Apart from the pure scholastic interest, this provides possibility of expanding the theoretical grounds of applied demographic studies. Let us not forget that historia magistra vitae. As is the case with the other methods of indirect assessment, the use of the method described above suggests keeping of delicate balance between the absolutization of formal mathematical and demographic apparatus resting on non-understanding of its conventionality on the one hand, and the non-constructive scepsis resulting from the lack of adequate information, on the other. To find the right ratio in this case, demographers, historians and other interested specialists are required to work in close cooperation.
