Summary/Abstract: This article considers certain ethno-social and ethno-demographic aspects of cultural and life-style problems in the sphere of the contemporary family and marriage and family relations. Analyses were made on the basis of data taken from the empirical sociological research done in 1977 on the theme "Complex Characterization of the Population of the People's Republic of Bulgaria with a View to Its Labour Possibilities". The author's own ethnographical material and observations have been used, together with a number of other works on the subject. Several basic conclusions are drawn on the basis of a number of analyses of the structure of the family and the organization of marriage and family relations. Data concerning the ethno-social study of the contemporary family show, above all, that the socialistically integrated cultural-life-style model of the family and of marriage and family relations are coming to the fore more and more categorically, and this applies to all social strata. However, the process, which leads to this integration should be considered in view of its further build up and improvement. What is more, local nuances in the behaviour of family members are to be observed in the culture and life-style of the different ethnographic regions. The contemporary family is one of the important channels for the transmission of ethnic information. This function largely depends on the demographic and socio-professional status of its members, who show a selective attitude to information about the ethnic milieu.
