Summary/Abstract: The survey of the Bulgarian press from the beginning of the 20lh c. shows that the international advance payments fraud, analyzed in the published here article "Fantastic E-Mail-Stories with Criminal Intentions" by Klaus Roth was widespread and was the object of public discussion as early as the end of the 19th c. The phenomenon of the fraud's letters at that time in Bulgaria was known as "the Spanish maldzjit', that is treasure-hunters, probably because of the widely exploited in the fantastic stories traditional motif of "buried money". The network of criminals, localized in Spain, had a broad international range and aspired to reach most various target audience. The letters in the Bulgarian newspapers present some of the then popular types of stories and their variants, adapted for the Bulgarian tradesmen.
