"Simple Forms" and Newspaper Discourse

Summary/Abstract: The article puts forward the question about the place of newspapers in folklorists' research — not only as a source of empiric material, but also as an object of research — a place, where the interaction between mass, everyday and traditional culture is manifested. Basic points of A. Jolles' theory of the "simple forms" are connected to narrative material from the newspaper discourse in order to demonstrate that in modern culture different means of expression — oral, written, printed, electronic — are successfully used for the presentation of homogeneous cultural objectifications.
