Coercion and Violence in Prison Organization and Management

Summary/Abstract: The paper below analyzes the issues of coercion and violence in prison organization and management as conditioned by such factors as State government, legal system, nature of State social policy and the penitentiary system. The paper gives a general overview of these factors, without any intention to make it exhaustive. The analysis may bring however a useful perspective to depict, from the perspective of penitentiary pedagogy, selected proposals of methods to reduce, within penitentiary institutions, coercion and violence in their widest sense.
