GRAMMATICAL, SEMANTIC AND PRAGMATIC PLANE(S) IN EXPRESSING THE RELATIONS OF OWNERSHIP IN SLOVAK

Summary/Abstract: The article presents an overview of understanding of the possessivity. On the background of the basic grammatical, semantical, syntactical and pragmatical characteristics it describes the basic ways of its expression in Slovakian – in particular possessive adjective, possessive pronouns, genetiv and dativ. It also outlines the cases, in which the expression of the relations of possessivity appears as subdominant and semantics (in terms of ownership or membership) and wider context (together with expresses pragmatic relations to the actual reality) help to identify them – for example instrumental, local, derived lexemes. In the semantic construction of an utterance additional semantic components (i.e. sentiment, subjective valuation, benefit) are superimposed on the basic abstract mode.
