Summary/Abstract: On April 18, 1945, the Special Intelligence Service was transferred from the Ministry of War to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, and its personnel made the object of massive purges. This move targeted mainly those who had acted against the communist movement and Soviet espionage, but the purge was made to appear as defending “democratic” values. Also purged were SIS workers born in Bessarabia and Northern Bukovina.
