Service-Learning: an Innovative Pedagogical Approach for Training Tomorrow’s Citizens

Summary/Abstract: There is a growing understanding that education systems in the West suffer from grave limitations when it comes to training future citizens who are not only academically qualified but are also responsible, caring people. This has fuelled the debate among experts over the direction that education reforms should take. The present study analyses the teaching potential of Service-Learning (SL) as an innovation approach to strengthening the ties between local communities and their educational institutions. It suggests benefits for all the parties involved.
