Summary/Abstract: Developing the minors’ media literacy includes decoding and interpreting media messages, distinguishing and analysing quality values. Thus understanding the media, its meaningful use, and the critical interpretation of the contents can provide the basis for the consumer consciousness education. The necessity of media pedagogy can be interpreted by the social status of the mass media, its cultural role, by the consonance existing between the functions of media and the education, and by the social needs. In this paper I intend to examine the extent to which this can be realised in Romania. My goal is to outline the state of the Romanian media literacy education based on the analysis of the curriculum. By the situation analysis associated with the needs analysis and the curriculum analysis method I look at the objectives, content, evaluation methods and teaching strategies used in the Romanian high school media education. Based on this approach I intend to outline how schools manage to take on the task of orienting media consumption.
