Summary/Abstract: The object of research is the relation: life transition - social role - personality. The author considers personal (auto/biographical, life) narratives, recorded in the village of Galata, Teteven region from elderly and middle-aged women. They are representatives of Bulgarian-speaking Muslims, who are the compact population of the village. As an additional information the author uses narratives of people from the village of Gradeshnitsa, which has similar ecological and social characteristics. The attention is focused on woman's life transitions - dramatic or harmonious passage of borders, change of the social status, and therefore change of one social role with another. The life stages of maidenhood, wedding period, pregnancy, giving birth, maternity, matrimony offer possibilities for carrying out role performances. In their essence the main roles of the woman are realizations of statuses, conditioned by the traditional normative culture. Life stories as a specific narrative expression of the personality enlighten the problem homogeneity/heterogeneity of a given role performance and reveal its psychological and sociocultural dimensions in their interrelation.
