Summary/Abstract: Protehtic “a”, one of the most representative phonetic phenomena of the Macedo-Romanian dialect, is less frequent in the writings of the Albanian writers Th. Cavalioti, Daniil Moscopoleanul and Constantin Ucuta, at the end of the 18th century. Considering the linguistic implications of this situation, we have reached the conclusion that the Albanian Macedo-Romanians, especially those living around Moscopole, lived for a longer period among speakers of Protho-Romanian.
