Summary/Abstract: A review of Joanna Krakowska’s book Mikołajska: Theater and the People’s Republic (WAB Publishers, Warsaw 2011). Poskuta-Włodek outlines the extraordinarily rich, complex, and passionate life of Halina Mikołajska, the protagonist of Krakowska’s book, and is very appreciative of the author’s research method for its sober look at the events it describes, the distance it keeps from its sources, and its questioning of home truths. She also praises the book’s “‘epic’ method, involving the description of the private sphere, acting, and public activities,” and then providing the reader with the contents of all the parts of the work.” To conclude she states that Mikołajska: Theater and the People’s Republic is one of the “best books on theater published in recent years.”
