Summary/Abstract: The Croatian author Miroslav Krleža belongs to the group of important chroniclers of Croatia in the First World War. Yet, because he is a writer who above all uses historical motives as instruments in the creation of his literary opus, so his historical information is only a vehicle for his literary interpretation. Indeed, his interpretation is characterized by a distinct ideological, political, and cosmopolitan point of view. Because the subject of this article is the engagement of a young Krleža in a variety of fields during the First World War, above all in journalism, by bringing these two elements together we can begin to understand something of the development of this author as well as the events, processes and people that characterized Croatia during the First World War.
