Summary/Abstract: The pronunciation dictionary of the 21st century (whether EPD or LPD) covers both British and American English, includes main pronunciation and variants and an accompanying CD-Rom. The investigation of 76 words taken from Longman Pronunciation Dictionary (3rd edition) has shown that there is quite often a mismatch between the pronunciation recorded and the IPA transcription. The richness of information seems to have complicated things for the language learner.
