Summary/Abstract: Ukraine is among the few countries which have voluntarily surrendered their nuclear weapons. But many in the country are dissatisfied with the decision, citing the ingratitude of the international community which, they believe, has not appreciated the lofty Ukraine gesture and offered neither security guarantees nor any technical or financial compensation. At the same time, Ukraine is a country with a sufficient scientific, technological and economic potential to launch a serial production of nuclear weapons on its own, over a relatively short time. However small the likelihood that this reviving nuclear yearning will be translated into a policy questioning the status quo, it nevertheless deserves careful scrutiny. The present article is an attempt at assessing the chances of possible changes in Ukraine’s policy towards nuclear weapons.
