Summary/Abstract: This paper outlines the draft of a research project aimed at investigating the basic features of emotional experiencing and behaving of the members of different ethnic groups who share the same environment. The subjects involved in the research have been selected from among the members of Romany and Serbian ethnic groups (300). Emotional experience and behaviour have been known to play a leading role in establishing, regulating, and controlling social interactions between the members of different ethnic groups. Through this research we tried to determine differences and similarities in emotional behaviour of Serbs and Romanies. Getting an empirically based insight into the basic features of emotional life of these two (emotional antecedents, emotional expressions, body sensations, regulation and control of emotions) will provide a systematic approach to the inter-cultural communication. We expect the findings of a planned research such as this to not only underline the importance of respecting some specific styles of experiencing and expressing emotions characteristic of different ethnic groups, but also to highlight the causes of possible misunderstandings, indignities and conflicts. This, in turn, is supposed to yield a number of useful solutions for planning and undertaking activities designed to contribute to a more profound, pleasant and harmonious community of these two groups. The activities in question are primarily concerned with increasing levels of tolerance and non-verbal sensitivity to others while, at the same time, decreasing the influence of stereotypes and ethnic prejudice.
