Summary/Abstract: Departing from the texts of Andrzej Stasiuk and Derek Wallcot the essay tries to investigate the connection with places as the foundational experience of human existence. Eugene Minkowski’s concept of primordial space turns out to be helpful in its accent laid upon the dynamic character of our perception of space which allows us to experience the density of the texture of the world before it freezes into solidified forms of events and things. In such a space we appear to ourselves and to others as unclear, blurred beings unconditionally exposed to anxiety but also able to taking empathetic interest in all living beings. Jacques Derrida’s la dérive insulaire is a preciously useful metaphor as it implies the idea of movement for which all anchorages and safe harbours are only temporary, never final, locations.
