The Tale of Animals and the Prospects of its Study

Summary/Abstract: The author makes a survey of the studies of the tales of animals and emphasizes one of the approaches to their further investigation – the structural-semantic one as an approach to the genetic study of the genre. The need for greater precision of the semantic analysis strongly increases with view to the fact that this kind of tale is the most ancient one. The question about the substantial character of these tales would be more successfully solved if the vast experience in the field of fairy-tale study is made use of. The article presents a programme for their study, the extra-textural elements being also taken into consideration, as well as the place of these tales among the other tales and their relation to the entire system of folklore genres.
