Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the present paper is to discuss students’ motivations for participation in active sport tourism and an analysis how tourism marketing organizations and tourist regions might use the results of such investigations. A diagnostic survey was carried out among students doing their major in Tourism and Recreation; an anonymous questionnaire comprising 49 questions on the motives for participation in active sport tourism served as the research tool. The analysis of the survey data revealed that social and health-related reasons were two major driving forces behind participation in active sport tourism. Ambition did not play any noticeable role. The research and analyses indicate that studies on the motivations for participation in active sport tourism might lead to improving the effectiveness of strategies used by tourism marketing organizations and tourist regions.
