AReturn to the Site. On the Space and Identity of the Novales Community

Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the relation between the space and identity of agroup. The point of departure for an analysis of the Chronicles of the Novales monastery is the assumption that community identity is aconstruct that is subject to constant actualisation. By accepting the thesis that the place of the foundation and the space belonging to the abbey are extremely important factors of communal monastic identity, the article at- tempts to trace the narration strategies in the Chro- nicle, which make use of the categories of space and place, based on the authority of the past (including fa- mous persons), the sacral status of the property and the widely understood practice of space.
