Summary/Abstract: The family exists not simply as the creation of individuals and/or of the state; the family has a reality sui generis as a category of social existence within which the fullness of the biological and moral reality of individuals is realized. As such, its social welfare cannot be reduced to the social welfare either of individuals or of society and the state. This presentation argues for the importance of recognizing the cardinal role and reality of the family.
