Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the picture of ‘laziness’ established in the Polish language. I try to determine which evaluative connotations are typical of this word in Polish, whether the process of secularization on the one hand, and – on the other hand – high valuation of work in the contemporary culture influence changes in the Poles’ axiological attitudes towards laziness, and if so, whether it is reflected in the Polish language. To carry out such research, I employ conceptual apparatus of cognitive linguistics, including such concepts as stereotype and linguistic picture of the world. The basis for describing the cognitive structure of laziness is made up of corpus and survey data. As a complementary source, I use Google image search. Images inform of extra-designational elements of the meaning, so I treat them as non-linguistic evidence of what is available through the language in the research of the linguistic picture of the world. The algorithm of the search engine promotes popular websites, indirectly giving insight into concepts in popular thinking.
