Summary/Abstract: In this paper some semantic problems related to expressions of auditory perception are discussed. In particular the problem of the relationship between the notion ‘głośność’ (‘loudness’) and the notion ‘odległość’ (‘distance’) is scrutinized. The author discusses his working hypothesis assuming that ‘głośność’ can be defined in terms of ‘odległość’ (roughly: ‘if something is loud you can hear it far away’). It has been replaced (cf. Żurowski 2009) with another one, following A. Bogusławski’s proposal: ‘loudness’ is now interpreted in terms of ‘attracting one’s attention’ (roughly: ‘if something is loud, that something’s volume is greater than its possible volume which would not attract one’s attention’).
