Summary/Abstract: Augustine was one of the most famous Church Fathers, who used his tremendous erudition and originality of thinking in building the bridges of Christian philosophy. Augustine's philosophy was based on the idea of love and self-sacrifice; for it brings into being the best human exploits, service to neighbour and God. According to Augustine, man understands the world relying on criteria of reason and authority, and uses that understanding in solving the problem of good and evil. According to him, goodness comes with divine grace, but evil springs from immoral will. So the ability to choose between good and evil is determined by man's will, characterised by Augustine as the only real value which establishes the moral relations of the person with other people, communities and God.
