Summary/Abstract: In Turkish Language and Literature departments in Turkish universities, the rhyme rules are taught mostly through the method used in modern Turkish poetry. This is also the case for classical Turkish poetry. However, classical Turkish poetry has a rhyme system of its own. This system which is based on Arabic alphabet is no longer taught on the grounds that this alphabet is no longer used. This paper argues that teaching rhyme in classical poetry should be conducted through the rhyme rules specific to classical poetry.
