General Visitations in the Vilnius Diocese In 17th and 18th Century – Issue Evolution

Summary/Abstract: Straipsnyje siekiama atskleisti, kaip XVII–XVIII a. Vilniaus vyskupijoje evoliucionavo vizitatorių keliamos problemos ir jų aptarimas vizitacijų medžiagoje. Analizuojami 1633–1784 m. vizitacijų aktų rinkiniai, pradedant vyskupu Abraomu Vaina ir baigiant vyskupu Ignotu Jokūbu Masalskiu. Autorius pažymi, jog nuo XVII a. vidurio didžiausia naujovė buvo fundacinių dokumentų įtraukimas į vizitacijų medžiagą, pati medžiaga tapo išsamesnė ir smulkmeniškesnė. Nuo XVIII a. daugiau dėmesio skirta ūkiniams reikalams aprašyti. Daugiausia naujovių vizitacijų medžiagoje pastebėta vyskupo I. J. Masalskio laikais. The article analyzes the issues discussed in the visitations of the diocese of Vilnius during the 17th and 18th centuries. The study is based on the collection of visitations from the period of 1633–1784, starting from Bishop A. Woyna and finishing with Bishop I. J. Massalski. It can be concluded that starting from mid-17th century the largest novelty was incorporation of foundation documents into the texts of visitations; in addition, descriptions became more thorough and detailed. Starting from the 18th century, much more attention was paid to the household themes. When talking about issues discussed in the visitations, most novelties were introduced in the times of Bishop I. J. Massalski.
