The Universal Dimension of Dimitrie Cantemir’s Work

Summary/Abstract: The article is presenting the universal dimensions of the Cantemirian thought and creation, which explains the inclusion, for the second time in only a quarter of a century, of Dimitrie Cantemir’s personality and work in the calendar of the UNESCO anniversaries. Owing to his sources, the learned prince achieved an intellectual bridge between the Orient and the Occident. He was a representative of the „Oriental Renaissance” and a forerunner in the Oriental studies, but, at the same time, the author of a new work in Romanian culture through his outlook, expression and construction.
