The History of Verbal Translating

Summary/Abstract: This article has presented a short history of translation and some interpreters since the origin of civilisation until the Medieval period when the translation became a craft. In the beginning, interpreters translated credentials, who had the most important political and cultural importance. Hermeneutic is related to diplomacy. Interpreters had been major in emergence and development of the court formal, they have been educated and well known a grammar and Latin language, but they often did espionage and worked in diplomatic bodies. The first cosmopolitan language appeared with Greek and, later, with Rome civilisations (Greek and Latine language). In 16 century, Portuguese and Spanish languages became the main language for communication in South Asia and America. Therefore, the global language is a language of conquerors and colonialism. In the Middle Ages set up idea of Holy languages (Greek, Latin and Hebrew) with precise theology terminology. From the period of European Enlightenment became the language of education class (French language), than a office language and a national language as only language for public usage. Since 19 century, Johann Gottfried von Herder established fundamental ideas about an intimate dependence of thought on language which underpin modern philosophy of language. It was Herder who, through the same ideas, his broad empirical approach to languages, his recognition of deep variations in language and thought across historical periods and cultures, and in other ways, inspired W. von Humboldt to found modern linguistics. This new principle and bad educated politicians has brought so many problems about translation and, this is one reason for today European disaccord about common language in offices of Europe.
