The activities of banks in the area of financial services for agribusiness in Poland

Summary/Abstract: The paper analyzed the activities of banks in the area of financial services for farms and agribusiness enterprises in Poland in 2004-2012. The level and dynamics of crediting of farms and food industry companies was especially analyzed. It was found that the core of the financial infrastructure of agribusiness were cooperative banks, associating banks, and the Bank BGŻ. The paper made an evaluation of strengths and weaknesses of these banks and the challenges that were associated with the financing of agribusiness. They arise from the changing needs of agribusiness companies in terms of financial services, the transformation on the banking market and changes in banking regulations.
