Summary/Abstract: The last days of the one-party dictatorship and the dawn of democracy in the summer of 1989 were marked by two events charged with symbolic content: the reburial of Imre Nagy and his fellow victims, and the death of János Kádár. The first took place on June 16, the second on July 6: two days which were to ring in the new and ring out the old.
