Summary/Abstract: The article presents two phraseological dictionaries: the Polish-German dictionary {Phraseologisches Wörterbuch Polnisch-Deutsch} and the German-Polish dictionary {Słownik frazeologiczny niemiecko-polski}. The former was published in 1990 in Leipzig. His editor-in-chief was Erika Ehegötz while Stanisław Skorupka was a consultant for the Polish part of this dictionary. The latter was published in 1999 in Warsaw and is a lexicographical work of the well-known professor of German, Jan Czochralski. Both dictionaries present equivalent idioms and examples for their usage in different contexts. This is the only thing they have in common. Whereas the former dictionary is still a modern phraseological lexicon nowadays, the goals of the latter one remain unclear. Looking at the phraseological dictionaries from the cognitive perspective, the author of this article comes to the conclusion that a truly modern phraseological work should include concepts which help translators and students grasp small differences of phraseological meanings. Selected examples show problems that we have to solve during lexicographical work with cognitive concepts.
