Summary/Abstract: The object of authoress’s interest are women belonged to the avant-garde of “Solidarity” social movement. The purpose of the article is to reconstruct their feminist consciousness if we assume that it reflects the beginning of way to modern Polish feminism and the First Women Congress. The research was based on 20 qualitative interviews with women. The object of analysis was the perception of power relations in the underground “Solidarity” (taking into consideration sex of leaders and subordinates), perception of discrimination against women in the movement (and society), problem of the struggle for women’s rights and interviewees’ attitudes toward feminism. The results demonstrate the general low level of feminist consciousness of women belonged to main activist of “Solidarity”. We observed tendency to accepting of patriarchal power relation in the movement dominating among interviewed women; lack of consciousness of gender discrimination and unnoticing of empirical examples of it in the movement and in the society; domination of the absolutely negative attitude (or lack of attitude) toward feminism and using the negative stereotype of feminist. As noticed in the research, high feminist consciousness of three interviewed women was developing under the influence of contact with feminists and feminism of Western societies. The results show the positive role of that kind of knowledge in developing opinions and attitudes toward feminism.
