Summary/Abstract: The term globalisation is sometimes used to refer specifically to economic globalisation: that is, the integration of national economies into the international economy through trade, foreign direct investment, capital flows, migration, and the spread of technology. The issue of the relationship between globalisation and the environment has arisen mainly as a result of increased economic integration, but globalization has also meant an important conceptual change in the way we think about the environment. Today environmental problems – such as the protection of the oceans and the atmosphere from pollution – seem to be not just of national interest, but of international concern. [4] The environment is now considered to be the “common heritage of mankind”, and environmental problems are increasingly the subject of international efforts. This is because of their cross-border effects and the impossibility that just one or a few nations can solve these problems on their own. The recent globalisation of international markets has managed to sustain the economic growth of the countries that have actively participated in this process. This paper summarises the institutional system of globalisation and gives a review of the environmental consequences of globalisation.
