Summary/Abstract: In the present article, G. Ibraileanu’s view about social and literal modernity is analysed based on Antoine Compaignon’s theory on antimodernity. It will be emphasyzed the critic’s almost unique view in the epoch; moderate partisan of social modernity, opponent of forced literary modernism. Although fascinated by the literal past, tradition and “retro style”, the “poporanism” (the ideology of “Viaţa românească”) forces Ibraileanu to censor his temperamental impulse and to choose the social modernity.
