Summary/Abstract: Potsherds of dishes with triangular projections (rarely trapezoid or two-sectional) protruding from their mouths have been found in the phases of occupation of settlements of the Early, Middle and Late Neolithic Age in Southwest Bulgaria. Both sides of these dishes essentially differ from one another. The inner side is carefully smoothed and even polished. The outer side is rough, smoked and has traces of ashes in the deeper furrows. Some of the vessels had lugs with anthropomorphic feminine signs on them. The group of vessels studied had been used for cooking food on embers in which they had been buried almost up to their mouths. Their outer side was purposely left rough to increase its surface, and hence the heating capacity of the vessels. To lose less heat the sides were made as thin as possible, in most cases it is 0.5-0.6 cm. Dishes of similar size in the group of the so-called tableware usually had sides thicker than 1 cm. The group of vessels studied was chiefly used for boiling food.
