Summary/Abstract: The paper provides critical evaluation of the main economic models of Eastern European transition from the point of view of their sensitivity to technology as an endogenous factor of economic development. The studied models are divided into groups – early and late 1990s models, the latter providing important elements to the proposed ‘back-door approach’ taken from actor-network theory and evolutionary economics – the neo-Schumpeterian approach. The analysis should be considered as a step in elaboration of methodology, aiming at a ‘thick’ description of the relationships of “post-socialist firms” as key economic actors with various entities in their environment – industrial, financial, legal, political, central and local government, research and development, educational and others.
