Summary/Abstract: This article is an attempt to theoretically reconsider some schemes and stereotypes through which we used to think of the economic system, which had been dominant in Bulgaria for more than four decades after 1947. This is the same economic system the painful reforming of which continues even to this day. The reconsideration is made from the point of view of a specific problem — that of the innovations as elaborated by the great Austrian economist Joseph Schum-peter. According to the author the thorough study of the way Schumpeter defines the problem of innovations and its solution outlines the framework within which a number of postulates inherited from the political economy and the historical materialism cease to be natural and self-comprehensive.
